Our play structure lives on...

Naturally, as a hippie home, we try to reuse items we have around the house and reduce the amount of new products we buy. Sometimes this is a way to save money, but usually, it is a great way to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills.

We find lots of great items on Craigslist and we have also been able to pass on many gently used items in the same way. Recently, a family in Western Massachusetts was looking to make room in their yard by getting rid of a nice Child Life swing set. We scored a high quality wooden jungle gym that was made in Massachusetts for only $40! How did we move it to our Vermont abode? A U Haul truck!

With a new slide, two swings, monkey bars, and a "clubhouse" perched atop the swing set, this was truly a great way to keep a 12 year old play structure and all of its accessories out of a landfill. Now, with a little scraping of the paint and a new finish on the wood beams, our child will enjoy this swing set for another 12 years or so. To me, it was a great deal on a play structure, but to my son, it is a brand new adventure that will provide hours of outdoor playtime fun!
